Experimental studies with propranolol as a local anaesthetic.

چکیده
The local anaesthetic activity of propranolol has been studied on the frog lumbar plexus and dog spinal cord. The anaesthetic action was of short latency and fairly long duration. The local toxicological studies after repeated local administration of propranolol did not reveal any sign of acute irritation or delayed tissue damage on rabbit cornea, guineapig skin and dog spinal cord. As judged by formalin-induced arthritis studies in rats, propranolol possesses anti-inflammatory activity.

Effect of some beta-adrenoceptor blockers and of (+) propranolol on adrenaline-induced pulmonary edema in mice.
(+) Propranolol is considered to prevent adrenaline-induced pulmonary edema (A.P.E.) due to the beta-adrenoceptor blockade. However, local anaesthetics also are known to prevent pulmonary edema. To assess the role of beta-adrenergic blockade in A.P.E., the effect of a beta 1-blocker possessing local anaesthetic action (+/- Metaprolol) and a beta 1-blocker possessing no local anaesthetic action ...
متن کاملEffect of some beta-blockers and procaine on adrenaline-induced pulmonary edema and lung surfactant activity in rats.
Alveolar membrane stability can be studied by finding out pulmonary surfactant activity (4, 5). Local anaesthetics possess the membrane stabilzing activity. Protective effect of propranolol against adrenaline induced pulmonary edema (APE) has been reported (6, 7). It has been proposed that it may be due to its local anaesthetic acti vity (7), but no experimental evidence was provided. Hence, pr...
متن کاملComparison of the effects of propranolol and MJ 1999 on cardiac beta-adrenoceptors in man.
1. Propranolol, a beta-adrenoceptor blocking drug with local anaesthetic and a direct myocardial depressant action, and MJ 1999, a beta-adrenoceptor blocking drug which has no local anaesthetic or intrinsic sympathomimetic action, were compared for beta-adrenoceptor blocking activity in man.2. Propranolol was 2.67 times more active than MJ 1999 in reducing by 50% the tachycardia produced by the...
متن کاملPHARMACOLOGICAL STUDIES ON NOVEL BASIC AMINOALKYL ARYL ETHERS AS POTENTIAL LOCAL ANAESTHETICS
Following our previous investigations on certain new aminoalkyl aryl ethers, which showed promising and outstanding local anaesthetic properties, the local anaesthetic activity and duration of action of a further selection of four novel derivatives of the above-mentioned series, used as hydrochloride salts, have been determined by the ill vivo rat sciatic nerve test. These are: N,N-dimethyl...

The acute intravenous toxicities of a selection of three potential long-acting local anaesthetics belonging to the series of2- phenoxyethyldialkylamine were determined in mice. Two of the compounds were tertiary amines and the third a quaternary ammonium derivative. The I.V. median lethal dose, (LDso) of one of the tertiary compounds, 21A [N, N- diethyl-2- (2,6- diisopropyl) ethyl amine hyd...
